CODING EXTERNAL CAUSES: INJURIES, ADVERSE EFFECTS, POISONINGS, & OTHER CONSEQUENCES IN 2026

This important and often overlooked area of coding will be addressed through chapter specific coding conventions and sequencing guidelines and rules relating to injuries, poisonings and other external causes. 

Additional emphasis on coding the highest level of specificity will be covered to aid in reporting medical necessity.  
A few areas covered include coding:
• Contusions, open wounds, lacerations
• Traumatic injuries including burns
• Insect bites, abrasions, foreign bodies, superficial injuries
• Poisonings and toxic effects of substances
• Procedural complications
Please bring your ICD-10-CM manual to class for participation in the exercises. This class is open only to participating MetroCare physician members and their staff.
