 a brief lunchtime program

Presented by: Karen Scott, MEd, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, FAHIMA

Proper use of modifiers, and correct place of service all affect reimbursement for services.  Understanding how and when to use modifiers is imperative to relate additional information not included in procedure codes as well as to report multiple procedures in the same encounter.

Place of service codes will also be discussed. Join expert Karen Scott to review new information as well as coding guidelines reinforcing coding knowledge to properly report services.

Bring your CPT4 manual (if you have one) for class exercises. This class is especially for physicians, NPS, and PAs and other clinicians. No coding CEUs are attached.

Compliance and Audits- Why You Should Audit Before the Government Does

Rana McSpadden, FACMPE, CPC, CEMA    SVMIC Medical Practice Consultant

CMS has stepped up the number and types of audits plaguing medical practices over the past few years. The Office of Inspector General (OIG) recommends that groups who receive any Federal money implement billing, coding, and documentation audits as part of their compliance program. This presentation discusses why these audits are important, as well as how performing routine self-audits may help with staying in compliance.

Objectives:

  • Identify areas of risk within coding and billing
  • Review the various types of governmental coding/billing audits and what they mean for your practice
  • Discuss the process for self-auditing
