Revisions implemented in 2021 for office visit E&M will be extended to ED, inpatient, home and residence and nursing facility services effective January 1, 2023. Join Karen for a one hour introduction to lay the groundwork for understanding these changes for 2023. MetroCare will host repeat sessions of this program to accommodate provider schedules, and a three hour deep dive will also take place in November.

Attention will be given to:

• Medical Decision Making detailed changes
• Major changes to time-based code selection

Coding the Endocrine System for 2023

The Endocrine system can be called the regulator due to its principal responsibility of providing a stable balance between interdependent elements of the human body through various hormones, thus making endocrine coding a necessary part of many specialties.

The ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 training session will include:

• Chapter specific terminology with anatomy
• Proper coding of conditions, disorders, and their complications
• Review coding sequencing, rules, regulations and conventions
• Stressing the importance of specificity in documentation and coding with identification

of co-morbidities that trigger HCCs (Hierarchical Condition Categories)

Please have your ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 manuals available for coding exercises.

You may submit your specific coding problems and questions to Donna Pendergrass at least a week ahead to be addressed by Karen during class. Please de-identify/remove any patient protected health information if you send clinic notes.

Chart Auditing in 2022 with Focus on HCCs for Risk

Presented by: Karen Scott, MEd, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, FAHIMA

This REPEAT interactive session is designed for coders and will focus on techniques for auditing clinical documentation to justify appropriate assignment of ICD-10 CM codes with special attention to those that trigger HCC for risk. We will also review proper documentation for E/M.

Objectives include:

• Assisting with the implementation of your own internal audit program
• Providing exercises for hands on auditing experience
• Guiding you with effective feedback to your physician and staff

Be sure to bring your current CPT-4 and ICD-10 CM manuals with you as well as a highlighter and sticky notes.  Feel free to also bring your questions or problems.
