Preventive Care Documentation and Coding for Physicians

Focus on preventive medicine services is increasing with payers as well as with employers to reduce risk of disease and disability and resulting expenditures.

This class will review preventive services and the guidelines for documentation and coding to successfully report and capture payment for these services to commercial carriers as well as Medicare.

Special topics:

  • Services that are bundled in the preventive codes
  • Preventive services and an acute problem discovered on the same day
  • Immunizations, injections, and Lab
  • Telehealth services

Coding the Endocrine System

Some aspects of endocrine coding are applicable across almost every specialty.

The ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 training session will include:

  • Chapter specific terminology with anatomy
  • Proper coding of conditions, disorders, and their complications
  • Review of coding sequencing, rules, regulations and conventions
  • The importance of specificity in documentation and coding choice with identification of co-morbidities that trigger HCCs (Hierarchical Condition Categories).

    

Please bring your ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 manual to class for coding exercises.

Please send us your specific coding problems and questions to be addressed by Karen during class. Please de-identify/remove any patient protected health information if you send clinic notes.

Injuries, Adverse Effects, Poisonings, & Other Consequences Of External Causes

This program will cover chapter specific coding conventions and sequencing guidelines and rules relating to injuries, poisonings and other external causes.    

Additional emphasis on coding the highest level of specificity will be covered to aid in reporting medical necessity. 

A few areas covered include coding:

  • Contusions, open wounds, lacerations
  • Traumatic injuries including burns
  • Insect bites, abrasions, foreign bodies, superficial injuries
  • Poisonings and toxic effects of substances
  • Procedural complications

Please bring your ICD-10-CM manual to class for participation in the exercises. This class is open only to participating MetroCare physician members and their staff.
