Understanding the Official Coding Guidelines for ICD-10-CM Coding Lunch program Presented by: Karen Scott, MEd, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, FAHIMA

Understanding the Official Coding Guidelines for ICD-10-CM Coding
Lunch program

Presented by: Karen Scott, MEd, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, FAHIMA

If you code your own encounters, this one hour program is especially for you.

These guidelines are rules, often overlooked, that have been developed to complement official coding conventions and instructions provided within ICD-10-CM itself.

Adherence to these guidelines when assigning ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes is required under HIPAA.

Join us for a discussion of these rules underlying the use of the codes and instructions within the main body of the manual. For those who have never read the guidelines, it can be an illuminating experience. It is a great review and update for those familiar with coding and coding rules.

2022 Preventive Services for Commercial and Medicare Plans Presented by: Karen Scott, MEd, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, FAHIMA and Fran Parker, Provider Relations and Quality Improvement MetroCare Physicians

2022 Preventive Services for Commercial and Medicare Plans Presented by: Karen Scott, MEd, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, FAHIMA and Fran Parker, Provider Relations and Quality Improvement MetroCare Physicians

The focus for preventive medicine services is to promote and maintain the well-being and health of patients to reduce risk of disease and disability. But preventive care also allows an opportunity for proper reporting of chronic disease burden in your practice population, allowing payers to more adequately estimate future resource use and cost of care for your patients. This can figure heavily in shared savings contracts and MIPS fee schedule adjustment calculations.

Fran Parker, who interacts closely with our practices and their quality reporting will join Karen to bring in discussion around practice implementation of wellness visits and what our network claims data indicates about our preventive visit rates and risk coding capture.

Karen will review preventive services and the guidelines for documentation and coding to successfully report and capture payment for these services to commercial carriers as well as Medicare.

Special topics:

  • Services that are bundled in the preventive codes
  • Preventive services and an acute problem discovered on the same day
  • Immunizations, injections, and Lab
