Basic Coding Principles:
Review for Coders and Introduction for Administrators, Billers and Office Staff

Administrators, billers, and other practice personnel who are not trained coders need an understanding of coding rules and functions in generating revenue and maintaining compliance with government regulations. And coders will get a review of the underlying function of coding and its importance in a medical practice.

Class participants will review or gain some understanding of coding procedure fundamentals, the familiarity with proper use of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS coding manuals to report services performed, and the process for assigning appropriate diagnoses in the critical role of supporting medical necessity.

Chart Auditing for Coding and Documentation in 2026 Presented by: Karen Scott, MEd, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, FAHIMA This interactive session is designed for coders and will focus on techniques for auditing clinical documentation to justify appropriate assignment of ICD-10 CM codes with attention to those that trigger HCC for risk. We will also review proper documentation for E/M.
