Addressing Healthcare Bias towards LGBTQ Patients

Healthcare discrimination and subtle, even unconscious, bias towards LGBTQ people continues to be a problem for many practices today. Dr. Susan Lacy will present a lunchtime webinar to bring awareness to possible issues that may need to be addressed in your practice- from issues with patient documentation and payer denials to educating your staff in the way that they address patients to recognizing barriers to effective communication and understanding.

Susan Lacy, MD, FACOG, is a graduate of Johns Hopkins Medical School and board-certified gynecologist who has been practicing in Memphis for over twenty years.

Dr. Lacy founded Modern Gynecology & Reproductive Health to meet the unique needs of the community and to provide more accessible, quality care in gynecology, hormone optimization, transgender care, wellness, and aesthetics.

Advance Directives

Susan R Jacob, PhD RN

Executive Associate Dean of Academic Affairs UTHSC

Please join us on Wednesday, August 19th for a lunchtime webinar as we learn more about assisting patients with understanding and setting advance directives. Dr. Jacob will address the need for advance directives along with advising us on how to approach this important work with patients.

In addition to being an experienced healthcare educator and administrator, Dr. Jacob is a frequent speaker regarding end of life issues and has worked as an advocate to increase the creation and use of Advance Directives in our community.

Advance Directives are an important part of Medicare Wellness visits, and as such, may be handled by any qualified healthcare provider in a practice. We hope that you and your staff will be able to join us for this brief but informative session that should prove a good investment of your time.

Official Coding Guidelines: A Deep Dive

Presented by: Karen Scott, MEd, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, FAHIMA

These guidelines are rules, often overlooked, that have been developed to complement official coding conventions and instructions provided within ICD-10-CM itself.

Adherence to these guidelines when assigning ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes is required under HIPAA.

Join us for a discussion of these rules underlying the use of the codes and instructions within the main body of the manual. For those who have never read the guidelines, it can be an illuminating experience. It is a great review and update for those familiar with coding and coding rules.
