NEW EMPLOYEE HALF DAY WEBINAR WITH SVMIC

This virtual program includes training in three areas most pertinent for all new employees in a medical practice: HIPAA, OSHA, and Dealing with Difficult Patients on May 12 from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM with a 10 minute break between topics. A very simple attendance quiz with questions to be answered during the sessions will be emailed in advance for the participant to print and answer during the course of the webinar. The completed quiz can be submitted to the administrator at the practice as proof of attendance. Incorrect answers can be viewed as a learning opportunity.

HIPAA for the Medical Office (9:00-9:50)

Overview: This presentation focuses on the basics of HIPAA Privacy, risks associated with electronic communication and an overview of the Breach Notification Rule.

Objectives:

  • Review the basics of each Rule
  • Discover the penalties and enforcement for non-compliance
  • Recognize potential breaches of protected health information (PHI)

OSHA for Medical Practice Staff (10:00-10:50)

Overview: This session introduces OSHA and its general requirements in a medical practice setting. This presentation meets the education requirements for OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.

Objectives:

  • Review common OSHA rules for medical practices
  • Report information on workplace violence, ergonomics, fire, emergency, infectious agents and hazardous communications
  • Meet the education requirements for OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens including PPE, sharps’ safety, hepatitis vaccinations, exposure incident protocol and other safety measures


Dealing with Difficult Patients (10:50-12:00)

Overview: This program outlines the classic types of difficult patients, the warning signs for each and the reasons behind the behavior. Tips for managing each patient type will be offered. Included are suggestions for managing threatening patients, complaints and developing a patient centered practice.

  • Outline typical characteristics of difficult patients
  • Specify triggers that play a role in the creation of an “angry” patient
  • Illustrate the value of listening and empathy in communication
